Dear Professor Rodwell:

 

My name is Javier Munoz and I am a 1st year student at CCNY. Electrical Engineering has always been my dream major as it offers all the creative and hands-on involvement in order to succeed. When I was 11 years old a life changing event occurred, my favorite aunt passed away. She was my biggest influence as she herself was an electrical engineer in Guatemala for a major company known as EEGSA. She was the reason I got into electrical engineering and since the day she died I’ve steered my focus on only electrical engineering to finish the career she couldn’t as well as express myself and help further technology.

 

I have many short term goals in mind that I believe I can acquire in the next few years. The biggest of them all being able to get internships dealing with electrical engineering as I have already set up interviews for this coming summer. Being able to work alongside a senior engineer will help me learn real world problems and solutions. With this experience and another short term goal of graduating with my diploma in electrical engineering I can fulfill my longer term goals such as working for Tesla and creating the electric powered engine for faster, more efficient cars. The rest of my years at CCNY I want to pass every class with a letter grade B or higher. Working toward these goals requires a lot of hard work which I am used to as all my life I’ve had to work hard to achieve anything.

 

Being able to work for Tesla or any electrical car company would be a huge long term goal to achieve as I enjoy building and restoring engines. Learning how the electrical system works in cars can help me create the fastest most efficient electrical car on the planet. Whichever car company could help me achieve that dream I will always put my full effort to achieve it. Constantly thinking about my aunt helps me push forward when my goals seem out of reach or outlandish as she never lets a barrier stop her from continuing her path. I hope my long term goals help create a safer environment for the world and push the limits of technology.

 

With these advancements in technology that I would hope to discover there will be a new opening to not only cars but to other big picture inventions. The discovery of a more efficient use of electricity in cars can lead to the efficiency of electricity in housing and buildings. Helping deplete the use of greenhouse gasses and other harmful waste. Even though I love gas powered cars the world is moving forward and I want to move with it. Electricity is the future. Many problems come from gas powered cars and the way to solve those problems is by working together to eliminate gas powered cars and cleaning the air. It is a massive change that will cause havoc at first but will improve society. Exploring beyond what we know now is the solution to any problems and engineers will only solve by testing the limits of the resources they have. Instead of fighting it I want to influence it the way it should to help the community around me.
