The air conditioner Whirlpool- 8000 BTU 115v Through the Wall Air Conditioner with 4,200 BTU Supplemental Heating offers quality cooling to the home. BTU is an acronym for “British Thermal Units” which measures how much energy the air conditioner uses to remove the heat from the room. This air conditioning unit has 3 cooling settings, 3 different number of fan speeds, an airflow rate of 247 cubic feet per minute, a remote control, sleep mode, a timer and auto shut off. It measures 20.3 inches wide, 24.2 inches length and 14.5 inches tall. The air conditioner requires to be placed into the wall as half of the system is inside the room and the other half is outside. The air conditioner will be judged off of efficiency, effectiveness and ease of use.

The air conditioner has many components but the main one is the fan that pulls the hot air in the room into the cooling system. The fan is an important innovation as it was built to pull and push air. The first blade fan was created in 1886 which is what was further advanced to be used in air conditioners today. There have been many trails to determine how the blade fan would be constructed. The final product was a 3 blade fan which can pull hot air and push out cold air after going through the cooling system. Without the blade fan there is no air flow which is why it is vital in the air conditioner.

The first of the criteria is efficiency, or how well the air conditioner uses energy. The energy efficiency rating is 9.7 which can be considered pretty good. Anything over an efficiency rating of 10 is considered excellent, anything above an 8 is considered good. This air conditioner’s efficiency rating is borderline excellent but it is still really good. The energy rating affects the amount of energy used. This also affects the price of electricity used and since less energy is needed to produce the cool air then it is less harmful on the environment. These are all positives in the energy efficiency.

The second criteria being judged is effectiveness, which is how well the product will do in a certain space. The unit is prepared to cover an area of 350 square feet. The average bedroom size in the United States is 200 square feet. The unit is definitely optimal for the average bedroom size. This doesn’t mean that it would be a bad unit for an area greater than 350 square feet, it just means that it would be less efficient and would take much longer to cool down a room.

The last criteria being ease of use which is just how easy the air conditioner is to use. The air conditioner includes a remote control which has all of the functions for the unit. The buttons are very simple as there are up arrows to raise the speed as well as the temperature. There are also down arrows below the up arrows which are to lower the speed and the temperature of the unit. Buttons such as a timer and sleep mode are available. Button functions are all stated on remote control. This makes the air conditioner very easy to use.

All the criteria are very important when evaluating the air conditioner as this is what the consumer needs to consider before making a purchase. The consumer needs to see the efficiency as it will affect the electric bill, the effectiveness as each space is different and also the ease of use as they will be using the product constantly and need to know how to use it. Overall the air conditioner Whirlpool- 8000 BTU 115v Through the Wall Air Conditioner with 4,200 BTU Supplemental Heating is a good product. The unit is great for any consumer that is looking to purchase an air conditioner.

This is being written to inform you about the product review and the advancements of my writing and struggles throughout the paper.

  • With the first draft I experienced my first struggle as I struggled to explain the product well enough for the reader and I feel like this is important. In order to combat the struggle I did even more research on the product and read articles on how to properly explain a product for consumers.
  • The second struggle was finding the right criteria that would matter to the consumer. I did research on what consumers want in their product in order to find the right criteria.

The air conditioner unit is excellent for any consumer as it is very good in the main aspects that it was being judged in. The only flaws would be if the air conditioner is being used in an area larger than 350 square feet, other than that the air conditioner excels in the criteria. The were learning experiences included in this assignment and in the future I now know to research topics more for a better understanding.

Product Review Draft

Air conditioners have been used for more than 100 years to cool a certain area. This certain air conditioner is the Whirlpool- 8000 BTU 115v Through the Wall Air Conditioner with 4,200 BTU Supplemental Heating. This certain model is placed into the wall as it takes in air from the back tan and goes through the system to eventually create the cool air that is extracted on the other side. As time has passed air conditioners have advanced to also include a heating system. Almost all models come with the heating system and this model is one of them.

The first air conditioner was created in 1902. Air conditioners use many technological advances as well as many engineering tools. All air conditioners have a metal frame if they are placed outside or partially placed outside. Engineers use metals that don’t rust or deteriorate easily. The parts on the inside are mainly galvanized steel and plastic which are known to last a long time and can withstand different weather conditions. As technology advanced air conditioners settings became digital. Making temperatures more accurate as well as speeds.

With all air conditioners there is a certain area that would best suit the best results from the system. This model is prepared to cover an area of 350 square feet. The average bedroom size in the United States is 200 square feet. This unit is definitely optimal for the average bedroom size. There are always settings on air conditioners as well, this model comes with three cool settings and three fan speeds. Many models come with at least 4 of each. This unit is much more simple in comparison. Pricing is also a big factor as this unit is sold retail for $629.99. Most of the other units are much more expensive. This air conditioner is cost efficient.

Efficiency is a big question when it comes to an electrical innovation such as air conditioners. The energy efficiency rating is 9.7 and a good energy efficiency rating is anything over a 10. Being a rating of below 8 is very poor so the energy efficiency is almost good but it is mainly fairly moderate. This model includes many features such as a remote control, sleep mode, timer, auto shut off and the heater as previously mentioned. These are basic features in any modern air conditioner. Other models have twice the amount of features and some are very useful such as a dehumidifier. This model is 14.5 inches high, 24.2 inches long and 20.3 inches wide. Fairly small for the amount of cooling it produces.

Looking at all the facts about the Whirlpool- 8000 BTU 115v Through the Wall Air Conditioner with 4,200 BTU Supplemental Heating, it seems to be a good unit for the price, features, size and efficiency. There are some categories in which it falls short in comparison to other models but this unit is still very solid.
